Fieldwork in Millport - A British marine biologist’s haven!
Rock pooling, tide tracking and sunset strolls! A Scottish adventure for a budding marine biologist. Come read about my time at the picturesque sea town of Millport, where I was fortunate to study local marine wildlife, from sea stars to sea birds, and sea otters to plankton. Each day brought something new—shifting tides revealing hidden worlds in rock pools, field notes filling up with observations, and moments of quiet awe along the shoreline. It was a chance to learn, explore, and reconnect with the coast in a way that only fieldwork can offer.
Backyard Science - Moth Monitoring Challenge
Garden lights, moth traps and midnight waits! A citizen science project in my own garden. Invited by my professor, I joined a moth monitoring challenge between local institutions, and suddenly found myself with the chance to explore nocturnal biodiversity right from home, armed with borrowed moth trap. Setting it up in the garden felt almost ceremonial—careful positioning of the light, routing cables indoors, and waiting as dusk fell and anticipation quietly built there. The experience revealed the hidden diversity of my garden and strengthened my appreciation for the value of citizen science projects.
